Studying over the summer

Library staff are here all through the summer to help with your enquiries, and, if you’re signed up for the Offsite postal loans service, you will still be able to request items for posting out to you.

If you are borrowing books over the summer, please remember that the auto-renewals system will stay in place. This means that you will still need to check your student email in case anyone else has requested the books which you have on loan.

If you are graduating this summer, congratulations! Please take a look at our blog post from 9th May which explains what happens to your student email after graduation, and how you can stay in touch with the university.

And remember, staff in the Library are always happy to help, so if you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

We’d love to hear from you!

Looking forwards to the summer….

Some important Library-related things to remember in the run-up to the summer:

The auto-renewals system will remain in place over the summer months. Please remember there is a possibility that another Library user could place a book on hold. This would mean that the book might be recalled from you. To avoid overdue fines, do please keep an eye on your student email to make sure that any Library books on loan haven’t been recalled. If one of your books is recalled, the Offsite team will still be here beavering away, so you will be able to post them back to the Library over the summer. Please see our contact details.

If you wanted to visit the Library in person (which you can still do 24/7), please check out the Library opening hours also. Please remember your Leeds Beckett campus (student) card if visiting in person.

If your course finishes this year, checkout our Offsite blog post from 9th May for news of access to MyBeckett and your files once you’ve graduated. You’ll also need to return all of your Library books and pay any outstanding charges by 30th June. You can check your Library account by logging into the Library catalogue using your MyBeckett login details.  If you think you have lost any books please contact Offsite or the Library as soon as possible.

If you are still working on modules please be kind to yourself – take regular breaks away from your screen and books and stay hydrated. The Student Wellbeing Team can help if you’re feeling under pressure. They also have a self-help page offering you resources to promote your wellbeing.

And remember, staff in the Library are always happy to help, so if you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

We’d love to hear from you!

Do you have Library books on loan or have you placed a book on hold?

It’s an exceptionally busy time of year here in the Library, what with exams, assignment due dates and dissertation hand-ins. We’d like to wish all Leeds Beckett students the best of luck in completing their studies.

Some print books are very heavily in demand currently and the Library does its best to have ebooks of popular titles. To make borrowing easier (and also fairer for all), if there’s a particular print book which you would like to use, it’s best if you place it on hold. For Offsite students, please see this page on borrowing and returning items, including a short video of how to request books by mail.

So what happens after you’ve placed a hold? If the item is available, we’ll send it out to you as soon as possible. If all copies of the book are out on loan, the person who has had the book longest will receive an email to their student email, asking them to return the book and giving them a date by which the book should be returned. The Students Union have told us that students find it really frustrating when borrowers keep books longer than their due dates. The auto-renewal system helps to reduce this, but it needs students to place holds on items that they need, check their student email frequently and return books that have been recalled.

At this busy time, if you feel like the work is piling up and it’s getting too stressful, the Student Wellbeing Team can help and they also have a self-help page offering you resources to promote your wellbeing.

We also have some advance news for the summer period – the auto-renewals system will remain in place over the summer vacation. This is to help students who are studying over the summer and those who have non-standard course dates, so if you don’t need to use your Library books over the summer it’s probably best to return them, particularly if you are likely to be away from home for periods.

And remember, staff in the Library are always happy to help, so if you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

We’d love to hear from you!
