It’s an exceptionally busy time of year here in the Library, what with exams, assignment due dates and dissertation hand-ins. We’d like to wish all Leeds Beckett students the best of luck in completing their studies.
Some print books are very heavily in demand currently and the Library does its best to have ebooks of popular titles. To make borrowing easier (and also fairer for all), if there’s a particular print book which you would like to use, it’s best if you place it on hold. For Offsite students, please see this page on borrowing and returning items, including a short video of how to request books by mail.
So what happens after you’ve placed a hold? If the item is available, we’ll send it out to you as soon as possible. If all copies of the book are out on loan, the person who has had the book longest will receive an email to their student email, asking them to return the book and giving them a date by which the book should be returned. The Students Union have told us that students find it really frustrating when borrowers keep books longer than their due dates. The auto-renewal system helps to reduce this, but it needs students to place holds on items that they need, check their student email frequently and return books that have been recalled.
At this busy time, if you feel like the work is piling up and it’s getting too stressful, the Student Wellbeing Team can help and they also have a self-help page offering you resources to promote your wellbeing.
We also have some advance news for the summer period – the auto-renewals system will remain in place over the summer vacation. This is to help students who are studying over the summer and those who have non-standard course dates, so if you don’t need to use your Library books over the summer it’s probably best to return them, particularly if you are likely to be away from home for periods.
And remember, staff in the Library are always happy to help, so if you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.
We’d love to hear from you!
