New home for the Library Offsite blog

We started the Offsite blog back in March 2014 to help keep distance learners up to date with Library news, and resources and information to support you with your studies.

It has served us well and has proven to be a useful way of communicating changes, new services and updates.

With this is mind we have decided to update our blog and move it to a new home. As such, this will be the last post on this site.

We will be posting all future posts on our new blog.  All the old content has been moved onto the new site, so you don’t need to worry about missing any of the old posts.

Thank you for all your support of our blog and we look forward to welcoming you to our new blog very soon!

If you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for support 24/7.

Important news – access to Google student email after 15th December

From 15 December 2017 you will no longer be able to access the archived copy of your Gmail account. This is because in September 2017 the University introduced new Microsoft student email accounts for all students.

We moved all your content (including contacts and email categories) to your new account at that time. If you re-started your course after 31 October you’ll need to contact Student IT Support for help to move content from your old Gmail account.

To access your Microsoft email account login with your University email address and usual login details via the Office 365 portalOffice 365

If you’ve not yet set up your devices to receive your emails or are encountering any problems please see our IT Support pages for help.

You can still use all the other Google applications including Google Drive.

If you have any queries, please contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

Library closures Sunday 21st & 28th August

Every year we have to implement Library closures in order to carry out essential electrical maintenance on some of our University buildings. This year the work is taking place over two Sundays in August.

This essential work helps to ensure the smooth running of the Library and also help us to maintain our 24/7 opening. To help minimise disruption we never close both Libraries at the same time. This year we plan to close at the following times:

Sunday 21st August

07:00 – 19:00 Sheila Silver Library closed. Headingley Library open.

Sunday 28th August

07:00 – 19:00 Headingley Library closed. Sheila Silver Library open.

On this day the following services will also be unavailable between 07:00-19:00

  • i-Print (Headingley only)
  • Access to P Drive (file store)

Don’t forget our Library website always gives you access to over 140,000 quality online resources!

We are very sorry for any inconvenience these closures may cause.

If you have any queries please contact Offsite.

Offsite students with disabilities can now borrow books for 6 weeks

In response to feedback from Offsite students, students who are registered with both the Offsite and Disability Advice services can now borrow books for 6 weeks. This allows an extra 2 weeks in addition to the standard Offsite loan period of 4 weeks. Please contact Offsite to request this extended loan period so that we can update our records.

You can also find out more about the Library support available for disabled and dyslexic users.
