Happy New Year!

We’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! And welcome to the first term of 2yellow fireworks018!

We hope you’ve had a good break and are looking forward to the new term.

We’re pleased to tell you that the planned upgrade to MyBeckett has been successfully completed.

Now that the new term has started, it’s important to remember that the auto-renewals and recalls system for book loans is back to normal. It’s therefore really important, especially if you have books on loan, that you check your student email regularly. This is because, if someone else requests one of the books which you have on loan, you may be asked to return it. If this does happen, you will be notified via your student email. The date by which you need to return the book will be specified in the email, but for Offsite students, this will be 14 days, after which you will start to accrue overdue fines.

If you have any queries, please do contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

We’d love to hear from you!

Visiting the library over Christmas and access to using other libraries

Christmas tree December 2017Some of you may be thinking about visiting us or visiting other libraries closer to home over the Christmas period. Our library is open 24/7 throughout the festive season, see the library website for more information and also details of when staff will be available to help if you need us.

The majority of university libraries in the UK and Ireland belong to a reciprocal borrowing scheme called SCONULAccess.

This enables students to access university libraries nearer to their home.  You can apply online, see this short video guide on how to apply for SCONULAccess. Your application will be processed in the Library and an authorisation email sent to you. Take the email along with your Leeds Beckett student card to the university library you wish to access (if you haven’t been sent your student card yet please contact your course administrator). Click here for more information on using other libraries.

Autorenewals over the Christmas period

As we build up to the start of the festive break, if you have any books on loan (or are planning to request any) here’s some news about how auto renewals will work over the Christmas 2017 holidays:

  • Your Libray items will continue to auto-renew.
  • Recall emails to your student email asking you to return a borrowed item will not be sent out between 12th December and 3rd January.  This means that you won’t be asked to return items over the holiday period.
  • You can continue to place holds through the Library catalogue as normal, and if the book is on the shelves, we will send it out to you (as long as this is before 21st December).
  • Items that reach their maximum number of auto-renewals during the holiday period won’t have an extended loan period – Library users will be notified that they need to return items as usual, and Offsite students will have two weeks in which to do this.
  • The Library closes on Friday 22nd December and re-opens on Tuesday 2nd January, so the last day we can post out items to Offsite students will be Thursday 21st December.
  • You can still access the Library 24/7 with your student card if you are planning a trip to Leeds and would like to visit the Library

If you have any queries, please contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.

Important news – access to Google student email after 15th December

From 15 December 2017 you will no longer be able to access the archived copy of your Gmail account. This is because in September 2017 the University introduced new Microsoft student email accounts for all students.

We moved all your content (including contacts and email categories) to your new account at that time. If you re-started your course after 31 October you’ll need to contact Student IT Support for help to move content from your old Gmail account.

To access your Microsoft email account login with your University email address and usual login details via the Office 365 portalOffice 365

If you’ve not yet set up your devices to receive your emails or are encountering any problems please see our IT Support pages for help.

You can still use all the other Google applications including Google Drive.

If you have any queries, please contact Offsite or the Library for additional support 24/7.
