Finding resources for your subject

Did you know we have a team of Academic Librarians who specialise in individual subject areas? They’ve created these subject specific guides to Library resources to help you with your studies.

The Academic Librarians also support your studies through:

  • school liaison – working with your school to ensure the Library has the resources you need
  • collection development – purchasing resources for your course
  • teaching – delivering inductions, one-to-one appointments and specialist sessions to help you develop your skills
  • research support – supporting staff and research students to make the most of information sources

Some Library updates

My Beckett upgrade

Some of you may have heard that MyBeckett was due to be upgraded this week, from Monday 31st July. This upgrade is now postponed until January. We’ll update you nearer the time.

Turnitin downtime

Turnitin will be having some downtime for upgrading on Saturday 5th August, from 3pm to 9pm.

Library closures 6th August and 27th August

If you’re planning to visit the Library in person any time, then there are two important dates to remember:

  • Sunday 6 August – 6am to 1pm Headingley Library closed. Sheila Silver Library open.
  • Sunday 27 August – 6am to 1pm Sheila Silver Library, City Campus closed. Headingley Library open

We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience that these updates may cause.

Don’t forget the Library website always gives you access to over 140,000 quality online resources, you can contact the Library 24/7 for support and information with MyBeckett, Library and IT (including password resets) and the Offsite team are also here to help throughout the summer.

Graduation week is here – congratulations!

The Offsite team would like to send their warmest congratulations to all those Leeds Beckett University students who are due to graduate this week.

If you are visiting the University campus for the graduation ceremony we hope that you, and your family and friends, enjoy your extra-special day which marks the culmination of your academic achievements.

Best wishes to all and good luck for the future.

Looking forward to Graduation!

Graduations are next week (24th-28th July) and hopefully some of you based off-campus will be coming to Leeds to attend your ceremony and visit our magnificent Headingley Campus (pictured).

The graduation team have compiled a useful list of things that you need to do before your graduation which can be found here. This includes information about what will happen to your Leeds Beckett student email account after graduation and also what to do if you if you have any outstanding library books . They have also provided information about what to expect on the day and useful tips about your graduation ceremony, these are available here. Look out for members of the library team who will be working as ushers on the day!

Skills for Learning – summer support

Although we are now a few weeks into the summer vacation there’s still lots of help available from the Skills for Learning team.

They have recorded some of the workshops from last year so you can revisit key topics, or visit them for the first time, including critical thinking, literature reviews, presentation skills and reflective writing. Or why not listen on the go to one of the podcasts to develop your academic communication or research skills?

The Skills for Learning website has hundreds of pages of resources on topics as diverse as problem solving, fractions, sampling, and workplace learning. Plus the Little Books series which you can download from the Library with titles including the Little Book of Time Management and the indispensable Quote Unquote guide to Harvard referencing.

Need to catch up with some studying over the summer?

The Library at Leeds Beckett is still open during the vacation if you need to contact us, or visit us if you live locally. The Offsite team is also here, ready and waiting for your queries.

You can still access uni work on your P: drive via the Files tab in MyBeckett and use Discover for fast and easy searching of our books and journals.

You can visit other university libraries nearer to your home too, via the SCONUL Access Scheme. Remember to take your Leeds Beckett student card with you.

If you want a change from studying, why not take a look at our School’s Out! Pinterest board or catch some summer tunes on our Summer Spotify playlist.

Please remember to cancel any holds you no longer need so that others can use the items, and renew your books until the next academic year.
