Welcome to Semester One of the 2016/17 academic year, which started this week. The Offsite team has already been contacted by lots of distance learners, both those beginning their studies just now, and those returning after the summer break. It’s great to hear from all of you.
Many of you will be busy looking for resources for your studies – don’t worry, the Offsite team and all Leeds Beckett Library staff are here to help you! Here’s a few snippets that you might find helpful:
- MyBeckett – this is the university’s virtual learning environment where you will be able to access online course materials, online assessments, your student email, the Library and much, much more! Remember that the sign-on system is slightly different this year, with students logging in via the single sign-on option. Why not take a look at our information on accessing MyBeckett. If you have any difficulties in logging on, please contact us. You can also phone the Library 24/7 for a password reset.
- Discover – this is the Library’s search engine, which searches over 90% of resources available from Leeds Beckett Library. Please check out the Discover pages on the Library website for help in using Discover.
- Subject Support – each course has an assigned Academic Librarian who liaises closely with course teams and who specialises in resources for their subject area. The Subject Support pages give contact details of all the Academic Librarians. If you are ever in Leeds, you could book an appointment to see them, or contact them by phone or by email. The Subject Support pages are also fantastic sources of information about your subject, as well as where to search for resources.
- Skills for Learning – Skills for Learning is a collection of resources to support the learning and teaching of academic skills, ranging from academic IT skills to academic communication such as writing and referencing. They have several really useful publications, some of which are available online and you can also book a workshop place or an individual tutorial if you live locally. For those further afield, there are several recorded Skills for Learning sessions.
We do hope you’re all settling in to the new term and remember, please do contact us if you have any queries.
