This Saturday is World Book Night, an annual celebration of reading and all things books. Some of us from your Library will be at Leeds train station on the 23rd, with our book giveaway departing at 16:15. Should you be in Leeds please drop by and say hello and perhaps walk away with a new book to read! Here is a sneak peek of the books we are giving away (ok, so they are still in boxes, but there are LOTS).
Being Offsite students means that you may well have a World Book Night event nearer to you than Leeds happening – have a look here . Hopefully you get chance – if not why not spend some of Saturday night reading? Even if it is a textbook or an academic journal!
When you’ve borrowed items from the Library, the time can pass really quickly and so the Library system sends out emails to student email addresses 3 days before Library due dates, as a reminder to either renew or return your items.
However, for distance learners who have borrowed books, the Offsite team have realised that 3 days isn’t that long to get down to your local post office to return items by post. So, for all items sent out by the Offsite team, the email reminders now go out an extra two days earlier, meaning that for items which we send out to students registered with Offsite, the reminders will be emailed to student email accounts 5 days in advance of the due date.
It’s also possible to renew your items online – log in to the Library catalogue using your usual MyBeckett login details, then go to the self-service tab and Renew my Materials. The Library has also produced a short video on how to renew your loans. Remember that, if you are unable to renew any items, you will need to return them by the due date.
For people who prefer to manage everything through one email account, you can also forward your student email to an alternative email address of your choice, please see these instructions.
And if you’d like an alternative to borrowing print books, you might like to check out the Library’s collection of eBooks. Why not take a look at the Library webpages on eBooks for FAQ’s about eBooks, news about the collections and notes on how to personalise the on-screen appearance of eBooks.
You can also contact Offsite at any time if you have any queries – we’re always delighted to hear from students!
We have a new member of the Offsite team! Andy is an Information Services Librarian and has worked at Leeds Beckett Library for over 12 years. He is looking forward to providing regular support to our Distance Learners, and utilising his experience of working at Leeds Beckett. To celebrate Andy and Lesley joining the team recently we have a new team photo on its way soon, watch out for it on our Offsite page – please also use this page to contact us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
