The Offsite team would like to send a warm greeting to all distance learners who are newly registered with the Offsite service. We’d also like to welcome back students who registered with us in previous academic years.
Offsite is Leeds Beckett University’s service to support distance learners in their use of the Library. We aim to ensure that distance students have as much help from the Library as a student visiting the Library in person would receive. Here’s a short recap of some of the ways in which Offsite can support you:
- Sending Library books by post
- Helping you to source journal articles
- Help in finding information
- Access to other university libraries
- Password resets
We’re a small friendly team and, even if your query isn’t Library-related, we will try to find the right person to help you.

Did you know we have a team of Academic Librarians who specialise in individual subject areas? They’ve created these subject specific guides to Library resources to help you with your studies. The Academic Librarians also support your studies through:
- school liaison – working with your school to ensure the Library has the resources you need
- collection development – purchasing resources for your course
- teaching – delivering inductions, one-to-one appointments and specialist sessions to help you develop your skills
- research support – supporting staff and research students to make the most of information sources
You can find the contact details for your Academic Librarian on the relevant subject guide.
You may have noticed that the Library website has been given a new look and feel for 2014. The new Offsite pages are here and we hope you’ll like them. There you’ll find information on:
Some website content is still being transferred from the old site. We’re also extending the site search to more pages and will be updating links as the University name change progresses but in the meantime please tell us what you think about the new Library website:
As a member of the Offsite team who has recently completed a distance learning course I understand just how demanding it can be. The best tip I was given was that every little helps. Fitting studying into your already busy life can seem impossible but never underestimate how useful spending just 15 minutes reading a day can be, breaking your work down into manageable chunks really does make a difference. And don’t forget that your friendly Offsite team are always here to help too!
You might also find this ebook aimed at distance learners useful. It contains all sorts of tips – from motivation and choosing a study space through to essay writing and exam preparation.
The start of term is drawing closer and book requests are starting to pick up again. We hope you’ve all had an enjoyable and relaxing break! We’d love to hear what you’ve been up to – you can tell us by leaving a comment on this blog post. Library staff from the Offsite team have been to lots of exciting places and we thought we’d share a couple of our holiday snaps with you.
