Transforming your Library

city refurb 13Are you planning to visit The Library over the summer? If so, please be aware that a major redevelopment project is taking place in the Sheila Silver Library, City Campus. The work will involve the reconfiguration of one floor of the Library each summer.

The work will start on the third floor of the Library at the end of term.

There will be no access to the third floor of the Library for all staff, students and visitors or guests whilst the work is taking place.

During the refurbishment work the book stock and other resources will be moved to alternative locations within the Library.

By September 2014 the third floor will provide:

  • A central support hub, including printers and a water fountain
  • An improved study environment with separate IT enabled group and silent study
  • A refurbished Disability Resource Area
  • Designated AET labs

The Library will continue to open 24/7 throughout the summer but there may be some disruption from noise whilst the building work takes place.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused

We will also keep you up to date with what’s happening via Twitter @leedsmetlibrary #librefurb

Golden Robes

We were thrilled to hear that we had been nominated for our Student Unions’ Golden Robes as a Hidden Hero – a special category for those staff behind the scenes whose efforts add significant value or provide essential support for students at Leeds Metropolitan University.

We would also like to congratulate our colleague Sue Smith who won the Hidden Hero award for her work as a Learning Support Officer, helping and supporting students with disabilities and dyslexia to use The Library and its resources.

Your student email address

Did you know it’s University policy that we always email students at their University email address? You might have wondered why this is. The reasons are:

  • It is secure and doesn’t change
  • University staff will always know how to contact you
  • Automatic Library reminder emails are sent to your student address

Please remember to check your student emails regularly. Not sure how to access them?

  • Just log in to X-stream
  • Look for the ‘Student email powered by Google’ box
  • Click on the ‘My Info’ button and note down your email address

Email

  • Click on ‘Close Info’ and then click on the Email button to log in with your email address and University password

Did you know you can set up a divert so emails sent to your student address are automatically forwarded to a different address? If you’d like to do this, please follow the instructions on page 3 of the Email Guide.
